Pasquale Massaro plays modern double bass and the historical bass instruments, using the various “bow schools”.

He is pursuing with great passion the rediscovery of the performance practice on historical 3-strings double bass and its authentic Solo and Chamber Music repertoire on manuscripts and treaties, with gut strings and historical bows.

His research aims to a better understanding of the original sound of that time and his attention is focused, in particular, to the music composed by Bottesini and Dragonetti, two leading representatives of the Italian School between 18th and 19th centuries, who were themselves the successors of a typical and even more ancient Italian tradition.
